AUSTIN – For the first time in 2025, the Texas A&M Aggies tasted defeat — and it came at the hands of their fiercest rival, the Texas Longhorns, dropping their perfect season and hopes for a conference title with a 27–17 loss in Austin. What had been a dominant campaign ended in heartbreak as the Aggies faltered when it mattered most.

Both teams were stellar defensively in the first quarter, which saw the Longhorns and the Aggies trade punts, as well as Texas stopping a fourth down drive by Texas A&M.

The Aggies controlled early momentum as quarterback Marcel Reed and the Aggie offense executed a steady drive in the second quarter that culminated in an 8-yard rushing touchdown by KC Concepcion — the kind of grind that exemplified A&M’s season-long efficiency. They entered halftime up 10–3, thinking they’d be able to lean on that formula.

But the wheels came off after the break. Texas’s ground game took over — the Longhorns racked up 218 rushing yards, and A&M struggled to respond. Offensively, the Aggies sputtered. Their signature tempo and rhythm vanished in the second half; the A&M offense managed just 35 yards in the third quarter.

The biggest blow came when Reed — who had been solid in the first half — threw two interceptions on back-to-back fourth-quarter drives. Those turnovers turned promising A&M possessions into game-sealing opportunities for the Longhorns.

The result is a tough pill to swallow for the Aggies. Not only does A&M lose its bid for an undefeated regular season and a shot at the conference crown, but the loss to its archrival leaves an even deeper sting. With one loss now on their record, the Aggies likely still reach the playoff — perhaps hosting a first-round game — but they’ll do so without the momentum to end the season.
